Downtown Portland consists of Portland’s main business and financial district. Located on the west bank of the Willamette River, downtown extends west from the river to Interstate 405, and south from West Burnside to the Portland State University campus. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s the city took determined measures to ensure the success of the downtown area. The downtown transit mall, waterfront park, Pioneer Courthouse Square, the MAX line, and the Pioneer Square mall have all helped make downtown Portland a place with a thriving all-hours business, shopping and dining district.
Downtown Portland offers many of the city’s cultural treasures: Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, the Portland Art Museum, Portland Opera Repertory Theatre and the Oregon Historical Society, and more. It also contains many of Portland’s high-rise buildings, like the iconic KOIN Center and the US Bancorp Tower (or “Big Pink” as it is often called). Most condos are in high-rise buildings, both new construction and older, and usually start at $200,000 and up.
