The Lents neighborhood was originally platted as a separate town in 1892 by Oliver P. Lent. In 1912, the town became part of the city of Portland. Since then, the neighborhood has grown into one of the largest areas in Southeast Portland with 3.75 square miles of land. Later in the 20th century with the growth of the I-205 freeway, the Lents neighborhood was essentially split in half and is now referred to as the Lents South and Lents North neighborhoods. The Lents area has a diverse number of residents as well as lots of easy access to public transportation.
