Ladd’s Addition, located in inner SE Portland, is a charming neighborhood to drive through and explore. It is one of the first planned residential communities in Portland, and was designed by Mayor William S. Ladd who was inspired by the L’Enfant Plan for Washington, D.C. He created a diagonal wagon wheel arrangement and each spoke is highlighted with a rose garden. At the center of the neighborhood is a circular park appropriately named Ladd’s Circle Park and Rose Gardens where there is a small pocket of commercial storefronts including Palios, a popular dessert spot.

Ladd’s Addition offers a nice mixture of small cottages and bungalows, as well as very large craftsman and colonial style homes. This neighborhood has a special combination of large mature trees, beautiful homes of varying size and style, and close proximity to Hawthorne and Division streets.
