The Buckman neighborhood was named after Cyrus Buckman, who was a 19th century orchardist and city council member. The Belmont and Hawthorne Districts in the Buckman neighborhood of Southeast Portland provide lots of shopping and entertainment. Another prominent feature of the area is the Buckman Arts Magnet Elementary School, which is one of Portland’s premiere arts-integrated elementary schools.
