The northeast neighborhood of Boise was named in honor of Reuben Patrick Boise, who was an Oregon Supreme Court judge in the 1850s. The area runs through North Mississippi Avenue between Fremont and Skidmore Streets. Mississippi Avenue features an array of restaurants, coffee shops, bike shops, and even recording studios. The Mississippi Avenue Street Fair began in 2001 and has grown into one of Portland’s largest street fairs.
